Whilst it is rare that a bathroom redesign will have the luxury of a blank canvas, people who are working within a new build home or are tearing out the existing bathroom in favour of accessible bath solutions can benefit from one simple trick to make their bathroom design look incredible.
This simple trick is to take advantage of symmetry and design your bathroom in a way that looks beautifully balanced, in turn creating a feeling of comfort and peace.
Exactly why people find symmetry so comforting is unknown, but it is believed to be a connection to nature. Most flowers, animals and objects in the natural world tend to be symmetrical, such as the unique patterns of a snowflake or the hexagonal shape of a honeycomb.
In a bathroom, there are various ways to achieve a symmetrical look, but exactly how many are available to you will depend on the size and shape of your bathroom space.
Larger bathrooms with a wide rectangular or square shape provide a lot of options to set up double sink basins and mirrors, which provide an opulent effect but not one that everyone has the space for.
A more widely available option is to balance how you use colour in the bathroom, for example by having coloured tiles on the side walls while keeping the floor, ceiling and middle of the room a more neutral shade, although to be effective the placement, tones and elements have to be the same.
Another option is long vertical tiles or even wood panelling, which allow you to align fixtures, fittings and decorative elements in a way that looks more centred and aesthetically pleasing.
Of course, the drawback to symmetry is that it means with dispensing with more eye-catching unique elements of a bathroom design, and that can sometimes feel safe and unexciting by comparison.
