Here at Bathtime Mobility, we are extremely proud of the bathing solutions we provide to an increasingly wide range of customers. Our Disabled Showers have helped to improve the lives and sustain the independence of a huge number of our customers. Our walk-in alternatives are incredibly helpful to people of all ages and physical abilities.
However safe they are, any bathing equipment can always be improved by the addition of certain bathroom accessories, particularly if you are physically impaired or if you have a family member who is growing increasingly frail.
3 Essential Disabled Shower Accessories
-
Wall-Mounted Hand Rails – Whilst handrails in the shower area can be essential, they are also useful in the rest of the bathroom. By mounting hand-rails directly onto nearby walls, particularly walls which are adjacent to the disabled shower, you can provide yourself with an extra place to grab hold of in the event of a slip or fall. They also work as places to take your weight, which could offer some relief from the strain of standing up for an extended period of time.
Many people have hand-rails set at various points on their walls, so that if they do fall, they are able to get back on their feet, no matter what position they land. This can be a massive improvement to your independence, particularly if you live alone.
-
Shower-Seating – Often overlooked as a useful component of a walk in shower, a wall-mounted or free standing seat can make the showering experience much more enjoyable. By giving yourself somewhere to rest whilst you are showering, you are able to avoid much of the strain that standing for an extended period of time requires.
Whilst wall-mounted seats require less space and can be folded away when not needed, they also offer a less comfortable experience and provide less support, meaning that you may still need to balance yourself with your legs.
There are advantages and disadvantages to both wall-mounted and free-standing options. You should weigh up how much support you think you will need and the level of comfort that you desire when deciding on your shower seat.
Disabled Showers That You Can Trust
At Bathtime Mobility, we know just how important a safe and enjoyable bathroom experience can be to your life, and we know how dangerous the bathroom environment can be without these precautions.
The first, and most important, step to creating a safe environment is the introduction of a disabled shower, or walk in bath, in place of the traditional designs which remain one of the most dangerous parts of the home.
